On March 5, as part of Ukrainian Days at the Sciences Po Grenoble (Institute of Political Studies), a conference was delivered by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Mykola Tochytskyi, dedicated to the issues of Russia's accountability for military aggression against Ukraine, international justice mechanisms, and the protection of cultural heritage.

The event brought together students, faculty, and researchers interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the legal and political dimensions of the war, as well as the role of international institutions in ensuring justice and restoring the international legal order.

In his address, the Ambassador emphasized that Russian aggression is not merely an attempt to seize territory, but an attack on the very principle of state sovereignty: "This war has never been solely about the territory of Ukraine. It is an attempt to alter the core principle of international relations—the principle that states have the right to independently choose their path of development."

Special attention was paid to the necessity of holding the aggressor state accountable. The Ambassador stressed that the international community is already shaping a justice architecture, key elements of which include the already established Register of Damage for Ukraine, the future Claims Commission, and the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

As part of the conference, a working meeting was also held with the participation of Director Simon Persico and Professor of Geopolitics Franck Petiteville, during which discussions continued regarding security challenges for Europe, the role of the academic community in building awareness of the war, and the importance of international solidarity with Ukraine.

The Permanent Representation of Ukraine to the Council of Europe also expresses its gratitude to the head of the "Ukraine-Grenoble-Isère" Association, Tetiana Liubchyk, for her assistance and support in organizing the event, as well as for her active efforts in supporting Ukraine and strengthening Ukrainian-French cooperation.

Such engagements with the academic community serve as a vital component in raising awareness about Russia's war against Ukraine and the international mechanisms for ensuring accountability for the crime of aggression.
